At the London Osteopath practices, Snow Hill and Fulham, Lucy uses Classical philosophy within diagnosis and treatment. At your first visit, you will be asked in depth about your current symptoms and previous health history, including surgeries, trips or falls and accidents you may have sustained. Lucy will also ask you about your current diet and nutrition, information about illnesses and any medication you may be taking.
You will be asked to undress down to your underwear, for physical evaluation of posture, quality and range of spinal and peripheral joint movement. Treatment consists of 'Whole Body Adjustment', where head to toe rhythmical movements are used to enable the body to work and perform better as a complete structure, taking demand off specific areas of the body which are commonly at the site of pain.
Cost of treatment may be covered by your insurance company, and a referral letter from a GP or Specialist may be required.
Classical Osteopathy uses many different techniques and approaches- each to get to the root cause of whichever structure is not functioning correctly and causing symptoms. Although designed to work altogether, each approach can be used independently as a complete system, depending on the history and health of the patient. Treatment is rarely painful, and quite relaxing, often patients close their eyes, and drift off to sleep during treatment. The rhythmical nature of the treatment is designed to alleviate stress, and harmonise and calm the natural rhythms of the body, of breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure.
Lucy will explain the cause of your symptoms, and her treatment plan designed to correct your structural imbalances. Lucy will be happy to answer any questions you have regarding your treatment, or with advice to help yourself outside of treatment.
Follow up sessions consist of re-evaluation of spinal curves and function, to maintain the effectiveness of the treatment. Lucy will continue with the Whole Body Adjustment.
Cranial and Functional Osteopathyis a gentle approach to the fascia and diaphragms- the connective tissues of the body, and subtle manipulation of the cranial bones and sacrum will have a strong and profound effect on the cranio- sacral rhythm. This treatment is extremely gentle and usually a very relaxing experience for everyone, effective for newborns after traumatic births, and for children with pain or problems during their development.
Injury and postural changes can alter the way in which fascia can cope with force transference and support of the tissues of the body, causing physical stress and strain patterns leading to loss of function and optimum conditions for disease. In adults, stress related problems and long term postural issues can all be treated very successfully.
Structural Osteopathyuses the architecture of the body, bones and muscles to improve and maintain optimal movement of the joints, increasing the quality blood supply and nerve impulses around the body. Massage, articulation and joint manipulation are all techniques used to effect posture, spinal mechanics, fluid dynamics and functional stability. Sports injuries, postural issues, back pain, disc and muscular problems can all be treated with excellent results.
Visceral Osteopathyis the manipulation of the viscera- internal organs contained within the abdomen to regulate appropriate and optimal function. This technique is extremely effective to correct problems with function, of pain or irregularity. |
